In our daily lives, we come into contact with locks every day, from the locks on our front doors to the locks on our bedroom doors, from the locks on our handles to the locks on our drawers. But do we know how to install and maintain them? Locks provide us with security, but most people neglect to maintain them after installation, leading to an increased risk of damage, which is very detrimental to home security. So how should locks be maintained?
We should regularly check the fit between the lock body and the strike plate, as well as the alignment of the bolt and the strike plate, and the gap between the door and the door frame. If these are not properly aligned, adjustments should be made to avoid potential security risks and to prolong the lifespan of the lock.
Some people tend to lubricate the lock when it becomes stiff, but this can lead to the accumulation of dust and cause the lock to malfunction. Therefore, it is best not to lubricate the lock. Instead, you can use pencil lead shavings or candle wax shavings, blowing them into the lock cylinder through a fine tube, and then insert the key and turn it several times.
